Hempstead’s public education system aims to prepare all students for future success through a holistic educational approach, emphasizing rigorous academics and supportive environments to break the cycle of generational poverty, in alignment with the my brother’s keeper initiative.
OUR GOALS
My Brother’s Keeper Program Goals
Hempstead MBK, in alignment with My Brother’s Keeper (MBK), focuses on transformative, cradle-to-college strategies that aim to improve life outcomes for boys and young men of color. Our structured programs foster family engagement and academic success across several key milestones.
Focus area 1
“Getting a healthy start and entering school ready to learn,” we will create a curriculum for students in our Pre-K and K program to get them energetic and eager to learn when they enter school.
Focus area 2
“Reading at grade level by third grade,” we will work with our Comprehensive Support and Improvement (TSI) school students to become fluent readers by continuing our MBK Mentorship Program.
Focus area 3
“Ensuring equitable access to high-quality schools and programs,” by effectively having students build a foundation with the understanding of how to manage money and personal finances. It will be a lifelong journey of learning various financial skills and concepts.

The goal of Hempstead’s public education system will ensure every student who walks through our school doors is prepared for post-secondary aspirations, careers, and life. To do so, we must embrace an approach to education that encompasses the whole child while maintaining an attitude of always wanting better for the students that we are fortunate enough to educate.
Since this is a highly competitive global economy we are living in, we must be strategic in our selection of best practices from around the world. My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) and Hempstead believe that no matter where they live, all students deserve access to a rigorous curriculum in a healthy setting with the care of enthusiastic and skilled educators. Our goal is to break the cycle of generational poverty.
